MGM MIRAGE’s Terry Lanni Honored at the 15th Annual Trumpet Awards

Chairman and CEO of MGM MIRAGE wins prestigious award for his business acumen and commitment to corporate diversity

LAS VEGAS - January 23, 2007 - Terry Lanni, Chairman and CEO of MGM MIRAGE, was honored at the 15th Annual Trumpet Awards for his business acumen and commitment to corporate diversity. He received the Chairman’s Award for his consistent support of minority achievement. Other honorees included celebrated singer Dionne Warwick and professional basketball legend Michael Jordan. The black-tie ceremony was held at the Bellagio Hotel & Casino, an MGM MIRAGE property. The Trumpet Awards highlight the accomplishments of individuals in the business, law, public service and entertainment fields who have made significant contributions to the fight for social justice and equality.

"It is a great privilege to be counted among the luminaries who comprise the Trumpet Awards' list of achievers," said Lanni. "This award is a testament to the growing importance of successful diversity business performance in today’s highly competitive global economy." 

The Trumpet Award marks one of Lanni’s many recognitions for championing workplace diversity. Diversity Best Practices recently recognized Lanni for outstanding leadership as a “CEO who gets it.”  In October 2000 he was inducted into the Gaming Hall of Fame, and was the recipient of Casino Journal’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001.

Lanni joined MGM Grand, Inc. in, 1995, and was named to his current position in July of that year.  In May 2000, he oversaw the acquisition of Mirage Resorts, thereby creating MGM MIRAGE. During this acquisition, Terry declared diversity a critical business imperative and implemented the company’s Diversity Initiative, which includes the award-winning Diversity Champions Training, the first of its kind in the hotel and gaming industry. In April 2005, Lanni led the company through another successful merger with Mandalay Resort Group, increasing the company’s workforce from 40,000 to 70,000 employees.
